National and European Initiatives to promote science education in europe
The aim of this briefing paper is to present recent national initiatives to improve the quality of science education in schools in Europe and to encourage more students to study science. Information comes from EUN´s Insight country reports on ICT in education, which had a main focus on science education in 2006; examples are given from 10 European countries.
In the second part of the paper we present the main initiatives of EUN in the field that enable teachers and students on a practical level to benefit from services, tools and projects in this area. A major emphasis is on the the Xplora portal, which developed several eCourses focusing on the core of science education curricula and supporting the MOUSE (Moodle On Usb Stick Environment) concept. In the end, the brief highlights a number of recent reports and studies in this area on European level and provides main links to further information in the field of science education.
