New learning environment
25 Schools running the Oasis Pilot
25 schools across Europe are participating in a pilot that utilises and validates the pedagogical approaches that have been developed and adapted as part of the Oasis project. These approaches have their roots in problem based learning, constructivist learning theory, and Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL). The idea behind these approaches is to support pupils’ collaborative knowledge building with the use of ICT.

Starting a Pedagogical Project

During the pilot participants will realise a project in their school that will implement the pedagogical approaches described above. For the moment participants are busy designing their projects: subject areas range from science, math, and languages to environmental and European citizenship issues.

Some of the schools choose to realise collaborative pilot projects on the European level, whereas some prefer to work with local schools and educational authorities, a collaboration area that is emphasised in the Oasis framework. You will be able to follow up the project in this part of the website.

See the Participants

You can see here the schools participating in the pilot by placing your mouse over the dots (you need Flash to view this). Additionally there are some more schools participating in the pilot virtually.

You can also watch a little video (a QuickTime Movie) about the workshop in Brussels by clicking here.

About Oasis

Oasis is a project with ambitious goal to promote small virtual communities in schools within the public educational system while, at the same time, increase interoperability between different school applications.

There are 4 additional pilots running at the same time:

  • Wireless environments in schools provided by Apple,
  • School servers provided by Sun Microsystems,
  • “SLIS/SLIM” (Serveur de communications Linux pour l'Internet Scolaire)
  • Zonal Servers and SIF.
