Sound in multimedia and learning – What kind of added value could sound bring?
Only recently has technology advanced to the state that would support the wider use of sound in digital learning environments. The broadband internet connections, CD – and DVD-ROMS now make it possible to utilize sound in learning.
Our search did not find any reports of research among primary or secondary students that focused on the wider use of sound in multimedia learning. The only research focus has so far been on using speech (narration, dialogue, and direct address) to enhance learning. Because of the difference within the results, it is still open whether the age of a learner influences the ability to exploit speech cues in learning.
